Volgens een Chinese verklaring zijn marine- en luchtmachteenheden ingezet om het schip "te volgen en monitoren" tijdens de doorvaart. De Chinese strijdkrachten blijven volgens de verklaring "te allen tijde in hoge staat van paraatheid" en zullen "de nationale soevereiniteit en regionale vrede en stabiliteit" beschermen. Het Nederlandse ministerie van Defensie heeft nog niet gereageerd. Zuid-Chinese Zee Vorige week claimde het Chinese leger al het fregat te hebben verdreven uit de Zuid-Chinese Zee ter hoogte van de Paracel-eilanden.
