유럽연합(EU)이 중국 알리바바 그룹의 온라인 쇼핑몰 알리익스프레스(AliExpress)에 불법·위조·위험 상품 판매를 제대로 차단하지 않았다는 이유로 5억5000만 유로(약 9314억5800만원)의 과징금을 부과했다.
로이터통신은 이 과징금이 역대 최대 규모라고 전했다.
20일(현지 시간) 로이터통신에 따르면 EU 집행위원회는 알리익스프레스가 위험 상품 확산을 평가·완화할 인력과 시스템을 제대로 갖추지 못했고, 추천·광고 시스템이 오히려 불법 상품 확산을 부추겼다고 지적하며 이같이 결정했다.
집행위는 알리익스프레스의 위조 방지를 위한 ‘브랜드 인증’ 제도가 인력 부족과 허술한 관리로 무용지물에 가까웠다고 판단했다.
EU 집행위원회는 또 알리익스프레스가 불법 제품을 제대로 탐지하지 못해 위조품부터 안전하지 않은 장난감, 위험한 화장품에 이르기까지 다양한 불법 제품들이 온라인상에 노출되고 있다고 봤다.
