HK to join party's joy with focus on key breakthroughs

Chief Executive John Lee on Wednesday said Hong Kong would hold a series of activities to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

These include events themed around the country's aerospace accomplishments and green transformation aimed at enhancing people’s awareness of key national achievements, he said.

Speaking at a launch ceremony of the activities, Lee said the country has offered a foundation for Hong Kong’s continued prosperity and development.

“Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the central government has always cared for and given strong support to Hong Kong,” he said.

“From the enactment of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the improvement of the electoral system, implementation of the patriots administering Hong Kong principle, to [SAR astronaut] Lai Ka-ying’s participation in the national space project and the deepened connection between Hong Kong and the mainland – all these reflect the country’s care and support.”

Lee stressed that Hong Kong enjoys unique advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.

The director of Beijing’s liaison office in Hong Kong, Zhou Ji, said the country has high expectations of Hong Kong and believes it has a bright future.

Tam Yiu-chung, consultant of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies, said it is of great importance that people understand the party and that the SAR should step up public educational efforts in the future.
