Statement by President Meloni on the arson attack against Adriano Cappellari

I wish to extend my full solidarity to Adriano Cappellari, who was the target of a very serious arson attack at his home in Enego last night. 

Threatening a reporter who chooses to shed light on challenging situations like the one in Caivano and on the valuable efforts of people like Don Maurizio Patriciello, who are at the forefront of serving their community, is unacceptable and an intolerable attack against freedom of the press and information.

I am sure that Adriano Cappellari will not allow himself to be intimidated and will continue his work, as he has done until now.

Italy needs brave young people like him, who are not afraid to speak out and document things that aren’t working, in an attempt to change them and make our society fairer and stronger. My thoughts are with Adriano, his family, and his colleagues at the ‘L’Altopiano’ newsroom.
