효성은 유럽의 데이터센터 운영 기업 STT GDC와 공동으로 설립한 합작 법인 ‘효성-STT GDC’를 통해 서울 금천구 가산동에 데이터센터 ‘STT 서울(Seoul) 1’을 개관하고 데이터센터 사업을 공식 시작한다고 17일 밝혔다.
‘STT 서울 1’은 효성중공업의 전력 공급체계 역량과 STT GDC의 데이터센터 설계, 운영, 서비스 역량이 합쳐진 시설이라고 회사 측은 설명했다.
에너지 규제 및 한정된 전력 공급망 등의 이유로 대부분의 기업 데이터센터는 수도권 외 지역에 있지만 효성은 자사의 전력 공급 노하우를 바탕으로 도심에 이 시설을 위치시켰다.
수요지와 데이터센터의 거리가 가까워지면 데이터 전송 지연을 최소화할 수 있다는 장점이 있기 때문이다.
