On 17 July 2025, the Minister for Local Government and English Devolution, Jim McMahon OBE MP, announced in a written ministerial statement the issuing of a non-statutory Best Value Notice to Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, to be reviewed after 12 months.
Best Value Notices are a formal notification that the Department has concerns regarding an authority and request that the authority provides the Department with assurance of improvement.
On 15 July 2026 the Minister for Local Government and Homelessness, Alison McGovern MP, announced in a written ministerial statement that the Best Value Notice will be lifted as ministers are reassured as to Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council‘s capacity to comply with its Best Value Duty under the Local Government Act 1999.
