Minister van Justitie en Veiligheid Van Weel noemt de uitlevering "goed nieuws voor de internationale strijd tegen georganiseerde misdaad". Hij zegt dat het gaat om het witwassen van opbrengsten van "grootschalige internationale drugshandel". Het OM meldt dat L. op 17 mei is opgepakt door de Turkse autoriteiten in Istanbul. Hij wordt vrijdag voorgeleid aan de rechter-commissaris. Criminele organisatie Bolle Jos Harry L. werd in 2023 ook al in Turkije opgepakt, toen om zijn banden met de criminele organisatie van zijn jongere broer Jos Leijdekkers, ook wel Bolle Jos genoemd. Met veel anderen die werden verdacht in de criminele organisatie, werd hij een half jaar later vrijgelaten. Bij een andere aanhouding in Nederland, in 2018, werden bij Harry L. in de auto meerdere vuurwapens, boksbeugels, een bivakmuts, een stroomstootwapen, tiewraps en handboeien aangetroffen. Vlak voordat hij werd veroordeeld, vluchtte hij naar Turkije. Jos Leijdekkers is bij verstek in Nederland veroordeeld tot 24 jaar cel voor cocaïnesmokkel en het opdracht geven tot moord. Hij is een van de meest gezochte criminelen van Europa. In januari werd bekend dat hij zich ophield in het West-Afrikaanse land Sierra Leone. Nederland heeft Sierra Leone officieel om de uitlevering van Bolle Jos gevraagd, maar tot op heden is hij niet opgepakt. Speciale eenheden van de Nederlandse politie en marine hebben Leijdekkers de afgelopen weken twee keer op zee willen arresteren, meldt De Telegraaf. Maar die operaties zouden op het laatste moment zijn afgeblazen.
