According to the Swedish Work Environment Authority, it's often a matter of high workload and low influence at work, which leads to people suffering mentally. The authority points to jobs in healthcare and social care in particular.

Sweden’s ‘94 World Cup anthem gets a next-gen reboot

The children of GES, the trio behind Sweden's best loved World Cup football anthem, "När Vi Gräver Guld i USA", have made a new version of their fathers' 1994 hit song to mark Sweden's return to American soil for the 2026 World Cup later this month. Thirty-two years ago, "När Vi Gräver Guld i USA" or, "When We Dig For Gold in the USA", provided a popular backdrop to Sweden's best ever World Cup on foreign soil, when they finished third. Man accused of kidnappings in Assad's Syria worked at Swedish preschool

A man accused of kidnappings and extortion in Bashar al-Assad's Syria has been working in childcare at a Swedish preschool, according to Swedish Radio's investigative programme Kaliber. He is one of 15 men loyal to the former Syrian dictator who live in Sweden today, that Kaliber has been able to identify with the help of Swedish police files, images on social media as well as witnesses on the ground in Syria. Human rights lawyer Basima Jabry says Sweden must investigate, prosecute or expel such men to protect the public. The man denies the allegations.

Speeches from Left Party, Social Democrats, Greens as Järvaveckan gets underway

Järvaveckan is underway in northwest Stockholm, and has so far seen speeches from the Left Party, the Social Democrats and the Greens. The Left Party have demanded tougher requirements for landlords while the Greens want it to be easier for young people in socioeconomically vulnerable areas to find work. Järvaveckan continues until Sunday.

Four in 10 Swedes wouldn't move north — even if they got SEK 100,000

Four in 10 Swedes would say no to moving to the country's north for work and where unemployment is lower, even if they were offered a SEK 100,000 relocation allowance. That's according to a survey from Indikator Opinion, carried out on behalf of Swedish Radio's local P4 channels. Most people are happy with the lives they have where they live, and money doesn't make much of a difference there, says Indikator's head of polling Per Oleskog Tryggvason.

Dozens of Swedish children identified in child pornography

Police have identified 49 children in Sweden who appear in child pornographic material, and who are suspected of having been victims of sexual assault. This follows a special operation, and according to police the children are from all over the country and range from infants to 18-year-olds. Police say their priority is working out the victims' identities: "Finding the children often means also finding the culprit," says Christer Andersson at the police's unit for internet-related sexual abuse of children.

Social Democrats vow to scrap work permit salary rule

The Social Democrats say they will scrap the system with a set salary requirement for work permit holders if they get into power after the election this autumn. The party's spokesperson on migration Ida Karkiainen tells Radio Sweden they want a system where salary requirements and possible exemptions are agreed on by the employers organisations and the trade unions, not by government. "We will keep the high requirements for salary, but it needs to be modeled with the trade unions due to a collective agreement that is more flexible in the labor market," she says.
