Hundreds of young students gathered in New Delhi on Saturday for the first street protest by the satirical “Cockroach People’s Party” over alleged irregularities in recent major examinations. Carrying paper cockroach masks and pamphlets, the protesters called for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who has faced criticism over the irregularities, including question paper leaks and technical glitches. “We want accountability from the government,” Utkarsh Raj, a medical college aspirant, told AFP at the protest site, which was watched closely by police officers in riot gear. “How is it that exam papers get leaked in this country? How is this right?” added Raj, 16. Protesters were led by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Boston University graduate who arrived in New Delhi from the United States on Saturday. “The youth of the country will no longer fear anyone, they will fight,” Dipke, a former political communications strategist for the opposition Aam Aadmi Party, told supporters at the rally. “Cockroaches don’t ever fear, they never die either,” said Dipke, as others shouted in unison. Protesters said young people were justifiably angry. “India deserves better administration of such crucial exams by the government,” said 20-year-old Sarthak, who gave only one name. Last month, authorities scrapped the nationwide medical college entrance exam after investigators uncovered a question paper leak. Indian media reported suicides of teenagers following the fiasco over the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), one of the country’s most competitive exams. That came on top of another scandal related to online marking system in tests taken by nearly two million high school students. “Young people have to give these exams and they can’t have a situation where these exam systems have no credibility left,” said Sapan Gyan, 52, who accompanied his sons to the protest. Modi’s government has blocked the movement’s X account in the country, a move the Cockroach Janta Party has challenged in a Delhi court. Senior cabinet minister Kiren Rijiju has accused the group of seeking followers from Pakistan and the “anti-India gang”. The group, which has amassed roughly 22 million Instagram followers since launching in mid-May, is the largest online expression of dissent against the Hindu nationalist Modi’s 12-year-old rule, fuelled by persistently high youth unemployment and recurring leaks of examination papers that threaten to derail the careers of millions of students. Political analysts say the group’s popularity has begun to dent Modi’s image despite his party’s recent victories in key state elections, even as wider frustration grows over rising fuel prices and gas shortages brought by the Middle East war. India has nearly 400 million people aged 15 to 29, and generating non-farm jobs for them remains one of its biggest challenges despite rapid growth. The urban youth jobless rate was nearly 14 per cent in April. Many educated young people are also stuck in low-paid or insecure jobs that do not match their skills, economists say.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and local partners have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the development of a maritime business district on prime Karachi Port Trust’s (KPT) waterfront land, the maritime affairs ministry said on Saturday. In a statement, Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the MoU was signed between KPT, Saudi Business Council–Najd Gateway Holding Company, Arif Habib Dolmen REIT Management Limited (AHDRML), and the Pakistan Corporate Consortium. The proposed project would be built on a 140‑acre KPT site on Karachi’s MT Khan Road and is intended to transform the area into a major commercial and maritime hub, the minister said. The development is envisaged to include modern commercial infrastructure aimed at attracting investment, generating employment, and supporting urban development, he added. “This strategic collaboration is a transformative opportunity to unlock the full potential of KPT’s waterfront assets and position Pakistan as a regional hub for maritime commerce and investment,” Chaudhry was quoted as saying. The minister affirmed that all regulatory and legal requirements under the Pakistani law would be met before the project proceeds. Members of the Saudi delegation showed keen interest in broader cooperation in the maritime sector, including potential involvement in port infrastructure and related projects, he added. The minister noted that the visit was part of wider efforts by Islamabad and Riyadh to deepen economic ties and explore investment opportunities in ports, logistics, infrastructure and trade facilitation. “Subject to regulatory approvals, the development could become one of the largest waterfront commercial projects in the region,” the minister added. In November last year, the ministry had invited proposals from the business community for the development of 140 acres of KPT land, proposing a joint venture model where the port acts as a strategic partner to establish an industrial park. Chaudhry had also said the government planned to expand the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation’s (PNSC) fleet by 50 per cent. He said the PNSC’s target of 30 vessels, initially planned for three years, should now be achieved within a year.
Mais de 30 mil bacharéis em Direito vão fazer a 5ª edição do ENAM O Exame Nacional da Magistratura (Enam) chega neste domingo (7) à sua quinta edição com mais de 31 mil inscritos. Criado pelo Conselho Nacional de Justiça (CNJ) para uniformizar o acesso aos concursos para juiz em todo o país, o exame se tornou uma etapa obrigatória para bacharéis em Direito que desejam ingressar na magistratura. A aprovação não garante uma vaga como juiz, mas é requisito para participar de seleções da magistratura federal, estadual, trabalhista e militar. O certificado tem validade de dois anos, prorrogável uma única vez por igual período. Segundo o ministro do Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) e diretor-geral da Escola Nacional de Formação e Aperfeiçoamento de Magistrados (Enfam), Benedito Gonçalves, a prova foi elaborada não para testar a simples memorização de leis, mas para avaliar a capacidade dos candidatos de interpretar e solucionar situações concretas. “Nós temos que fugir daquele candidato que vira uma máquina de fazer prova (...) Não é decorar artigo de lei ou da Constituição (...) a prova valoriza o raciocínio, a resolução de problemas e, o mais importante de tudo, a vocação para a magistratura", afirma. Na avaliação do ministro, o Enam surgiu da necessidade de ampliar o acesso à magistratura. Ele afirma que, embora o concurso público seja tradicionalmente uma porta de ascensão social, a carreira de juiz ainda é percebida por muitos brasileiros como um caminho distante. “O concurso de juiz não é democrático, não é acessível, no modo como ele se apresenta objetivamente (...) A dificuldade acaba criando um muro na cabeça das pessoas, que passam a acreditar que aquela carreira não é para elas, mesmo sendo um concurso público". A criação do exame está ligada à Reforma do Judiciário promovida pela Emenda Constitucional nº 45, de 2004, que fortaleceu tanto o CNJ quanto a Enfam. A proposta que deu origem ao Enam foi relatada pelo então presidente do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), ministro Luís Roberto Barroso, e estabeleceu uma habilitação nacional prévia. "A ideia foi instituir uma habilitação nacional, criando um processo mais uniforme para todo o país e garantindo um modelo idôneo de acesso", explica. Na avaliação do ministro, os números desta edição mostram que o exame vem ampliando a diversidade entre os interessados na carreira de juiz. 👩⚖️ As mulheres são maioria entre os inscritos, com mais de 17 mil candidaturas. Entre os participantes também há cerca de 5 mil pessoas negras, 1.700 pessoas com deficiência, além de 41 indígenas e 18 quilombolas. “O Enam veio olhar para outra camada da sociedade”, afirmou. “Ele alcança pessoas que muitas vezes não se viam nesse espaço.” Segundo ele, a ampliação da participação produz um efeito simbólico importante. “Quando alguém vê um semelhante participando ou conseguindo, pensa: ‘se ele conseguiu, eu também posso’. Isso ajuda a romper barreiras que muitas vezes são invisíveis.” Após cinco edições, a Enfam afirma já observar resultados concretos da iniciativa. Atualmente, há um banco de cerca de 17 mil pessoas habilitadas a disputar concursos para juiz em todo o país. São Paulo lidera o número de participantes, com 5.787 inscritos, seguido por Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais e Distrito Federal. A prova será composta por 80 questões objetivas de múltipla escolha, que abordam os seguintes conteúdos: Direito Constitucional; Direito Administrativo; Direito Civil; Direito Penal; Empresarial; Processual Civil; Direitos Humanos; Formação Humanística. Para conseguir a habilitação, o candidato da ampla concorrência precisa atingir pelo menos 70% de acertos. Já os participantes de ações afirmativas têm exigência mínima de 50%. Ainda conforme as regras do edital, é obrigatório apresentar documento oficial com foto e caneta esferográfica de tinta preta ou azul para realizar a prova. A organização recomenda que os participantes consultem previamente o local de aplicação, disponível no site da Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), banca organizadora. Os endereços estão distribuídos em todas as capitais brasileiras e podem ser consultados pelos candidatos nos canais oficiais do exame. Questionado sobre a segurança da aplicação, Benedito Gonçalves evitou detalhar os procedimentos, mas destacou o histórico de acertos das edições anteriores.

Het voorspellen van het WK voetbal van deze zomer zal voor veel fanatieke of juist minder betrokken voetbalfans niet de makkelijkste opgave zijn. Menig persoon die een voetbalpool invult, zal met moeite een winnaar kunnen aanwijzen bij Iran tegen Nieuw-Zeeland en Congo-Oezbekistan. Als je daarbij optelt dat er dit toernooi veel meer teams (48 in plaats van 32) meespelen en dus ook veel meer wedstrijden te voorspellen zijn, zal het invullen van een voetbalpool kunnen voelen als een heuse opgave. Dankzij de opkomst van AI-chatbots in de afgelopen jaren is het aannemelijk dat meer mensen de hulp zullen inroepen van een digitale assistent. Sterker nog: het is het eerste WK voetbal waarbij een AI-chatbot op grote schaal kan worden gebruikt voor voorspellingen. De eerste publieke versie van ChatGPT werd uitgebracht in november 2022, toen de groepsfase van het WK in Qatar nog bezig was. Sindsdien zijn er meerdere AI-modellen op de markt gekomen en is het gebruik van kunstmatige intelligentie gemeengoed geworden voor veel mensen. Westers gericht Een aandachtspunt daarbij is dat chatbots als Claude, ChatGPT en Gemini niet specifiek zijn getraind om voetbalwedstrijden te voorspellen, zegt Ruud Adriaans, hoofd AI bij accountantsbureau BDO. "Dat zijn modellen die heel breed ingezet kunnen worden. Ze hebben data van zo'n beetje het hele internet gebruikt." Maar meer data betekent niet automatisch een grotere kans op een goed antwoord bij het invullen van een WK-pool. "Als je een open vraag zou stellen aan een AI-bot, krijg je een soort gemene deler als antwoord." Concreet leidt dat ertoe dat de landen die als favoriet worden gezien, in het antwoord van de chatbot vaak netjes door de poulefase heen komen. De data waarmee de chatbot rekent hebben nog een effect, zegt Adriaans. "ChatGPT en veel andere westerse AI-modellen baseren zich onder meer op data van het internet en die zijn overwegend westers. Westerse nieuwssites zijn bijvoorbeeld meer vertegenwoordigd." Dat heeft weer impact op het antwoord dat je van een chatbot krijgt. Zo is de kans groter dat westerse en 'mediagenieke' landen overschat worden door AI, simpelweg omdat ze vaker voorkomen en meer worden opgehemeld in de aangeleverde data. Geen verrassingen Die vooringenomenheid is meteen ook de valkuil, omdat een AI-model je dus niet zomaar een verrassende uitkomst geeft. Marokko dat de halve finale van het WK haalt en daarbij Spanje en Portugal uitschakelt, zoals in 2022, zou een AI-bot niet hebben voorspeld. Daar komt bovenop dat een chatbot een compleet ander antwoord kan geven als je dezelfde vraag vijf minuten later stelt. Dat merkte ook Peter Neef, die de website Pouletips.nl beheert. Hij werkt al jaren met een rekenmodel dat zich baseert op data van wedkantoren en vergeleek dat dit jaar met de antwoorden van AI-chatbots. Die lopen nogal uiteen. ChatGPT en Gemini verwachten een 1-1 bij de groepsfasewedstrijd Nederland-Zweden, Claude denkt 2-1 voor Nederland en Neef zelf gaat uit van een 1-0 winst voor Oranje. De data van de wedkantoren zouden betrouwbaarder moeten zijn, omdat daar ook bijvoorbeeld WK-selecties, blessures en recente wedstrijden in worden meegenomen. Volgens Neef hebben de bookmakers een duidelijke voorkeur. "Frankrijk en Spanje, die hebben de grootste kans om wereldkampioen te worden. Maar die hebben net wel net allebei een oefenwedstrijd niet weten te winnen, dus dat moeten we echt nog maar zien." Hij wacht in elk geval nog even met het invullen van zijn pool. "Dat is een van de tips ook: vul alles zo laat mogelijk in. Want wie weet zijn er nog blessures of gebeuren er nog andere dingen." Onverwacht goed Kortom: AI een volledige voorspelling laten genereren is geen goed idee als je een pool wil winnen. Maar hulp vragen kan wel, als het maar zeer specifieke vragen zijn, zegt Adriaans van BDO. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld ermee onderzoeken welk van de Afrikaanse landen het de afgelopen periode onverwachts goed heeft gedaan. "AI kan je daar wel, mits je de vraag goed kadert, een prima antwoord op helpen vinden. Zolang je het maar met een bron kunt verifiëren." Adriaans omschrijft het als volgt. "Zie het qua betrouwbaarheid een beetje als je oom die voetbal volgt en ook wat heeft gegoogeld. Uiteindelijk moet je kiezen of je hem vertrouwt of toch liever zelf je research doet."
