Entretanto, antes da descida, a corda que os segurava teria se soltado e eles caíram no mar. Em comunicado, a Petronas informou que os três profissionais foram declarados mortos ao chegarem no Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, em Kuala Terengganu. O sobrevivendo está sob tratamento médico e segue sob observação. Ainda segundo a empresa, as investigações seguem em andamento com as autoridades locais e a prioridade do momento é prestar apoio aos afetados.
