Bilawal vows to ensure ownership rights, 18th Amendment protections for Gilgit-Baltistan

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday promised to ensure the right of ownership and the protections of the 18th Constitutional Amendment for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. His remarks came during a public rally in Gilgit, part of his region-wide campaign ahead of the June 7 elections. Addressing the rally, Bilawal said it was part of the PPP’s election manifesto to grant all constitutional rights to the region, including the right to own land and financial protections under the 18th Constitutional Amendment. He urged the people of GB to give the PPP a “heavy mandate”, so the party could continue its struggle to secure the region’s ownership rights, calling on them to spread his message. Bilawal said legislation on the matter had been tabled in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and had been passed by the house. “As per the legislation, 28,000 square miles of land owned by the government has been converted into common land. We have fulfilled our promise to this stage,” the PPP chairman said. Bilawal added that the legislation should now be implemented. “I request the people of Gilgit-Baltistan that this time I need a heavy majority,” he said, warning that if any party other than the PPP came into power, it would “tear this legislation apart”. “Whether you belong to the PPP or not, I request all the people of the region to vote for the PPP, because only we can safeguard ownership rights.” More to follow

A Câmara Municipal prestou homenagem, nesta segunda-feira (18), aos médicos ortopedistas Antônio Alício Moreira de Oliveira Junior e Hilton José Melo Barros, com a entrega das Comendas Nise da Silveira. A homenagem foi proposta pelo vereador licenciado Thiago Prado, e a sessão solene foi presidida pelo vereador Milton Ronalsa. Durante o início dos trabalhos, o vereador Milton Ronalsa parabenizou os homenageados e ressaltou a importância da ortopedia como uma das áreas fundamentais da medicina, responsável por devolver a mobilidade, autonomia e dignidade das pessoas. A mesa foi composta pelos homenageados, pela superintendente do Maceió Convention, Danielle Novis; pelo diretor-médico da Santa Casa de Misericórdia, o médico Arthur Gomes Neto, e pelo secretário Municipal de Segurança Comunitária, Tiago Prado. O primeiro a receber a Comenda Nise da Silveira foi Antônio Alicio. Em discurso, ele agradeceu pela homenagem, disse ter amor por Maceió e pelo estado de Alagoas, e reforçou o quanto é importante a formação de equipes para cuidar das pessoas. “Receber esta homenagem é importante. Gostamos de ser homenageados por nossa atuação, pelo que desenvolvemos. É fundamental a nossa valorização. A minha trajetória é operar, ensinar e aprender. Já fui da emergência, formei equipes, e sempre tivemos profissionais qualificados para cuidar das pessoas. Formar pessoas é tirar o melhor que elas têm. Ao longo desses anos, me remete que ‘o afeto é terapêutico’, como já disse Nise da Silveira”, discursou o médico que está à frente do Serviço de Ortopedia da Santa Casa de Maceió. O segundo homenageado com a Comenda Nise da Silveira foi Hilton Barros. Em discurso, ele disse estar lisonjeado em receber a honraria, e reiterou como a ortopedia remete ao cuidar dos pacientes com humanidade. “É um momento de muita felicidade. Estou honrado em receber essa comenda, pelo seu significado, pois Nise da Silveira é uma referência no país. A medicina nos remete ao cuidado com indivíduo, cuidar do paciente, dialogar com o paciente. Temos a coragem para desbravar novos horizontes. A medicina me deu as melhores oportunidades, me abriu portas, a conhecer e lidar com as pessoas. O paciente tem que ser acolhido, ser ajudado. Por isso, tão importante impactar positivamente na vida das pessoas”, agradeceu o médico que é membro titular da Sociedade Brasileira de Ortopedia e Traumatologia, da Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia do Quadril e a da Sociedade Brasileira de Trauma Ortopédico. Presente à solenidade, o vereador licenciado e titular da Semsc, Thiago Prado, enalteceu a trajetória dos médicos, que foi construída com dedicação à medicina, cuidado com as pessoas, seriedade e competência. “Celebramos hoje um momento de reconhecimento, gratidão e respeito a dois renomados médicos da nossa capital. Homenagear o Dr. Antônio Alicio e Dr. Hilton Melo Barros é reconhecer duas trajetórias construídas com seriedade, competência e, sobretudo, humanidade. São profissionais que fizeram da medicina não apenas uma profissão, mas uma missão de vida. Ao longo de suas carreiras, ambos contribuíram de forma decisiva para o fortalecimento da ortopedia em nosso estado, ajudando a formar profissionais, incentivando o desenvolvimento da medicina e oferecendo à população alagoana um atendimento pautado na excelência e no respeito à vida”, argumentou Thiago Prado. Durante a solenidade, também usaram a palavra Adriana Pacheco de Oliveira, esposa do dr. Alício; o médico Hélio Gonçalves Ribeiro Filho; Arthur Gomes Neto, diretor-médico da Santa Casa; Karine Melo Barros, irmã do dr. Hilton; Thaís Acioli Barros, esposa dr.
