Police deployed to Songpa polling station amid standoff over ballot box removal

Dozens of police officers were deployed early Thursday to a polling station in Seoul’s Songpa District where citizens continued to block the removal of a ballot box after voting hours were extended due to a ballot paper shortage. Voter turnout comes to second-highest for local election at 61%

South Korea’s voter turnout in Wednesday’s local elections was provisionally tallied at 61 percent, marking the second-highest turnout in the country’s local election history, according to the National Election Commission.
