President Meloni’s message to 2026 Farmindustria Assembly

Dear President Cattani, dear friends,

I am truly sorry not to have been able to join you, but I nevertheless wanted to send you my greetings and my contribution to Farmindustria’s public assembly.

Our pharmaceutical industry is an example of absolute Made in Italy excellence, representing a strategic sector for the nation’s health, growth, and security. It is the industrial sector in which we rank first in Europe in terms of productivity and competitiveness, with record growth in turnover, investments, and exports. 

A key concept is linked to the pharmaceutical industry: the concept of value. The value of innovation, which contributes to public health and improves quality of life. The value of research, which advances treatment pathways and pushes forward the frontiers of medicine. The value of security, which strengthens the nation’s technological sovereignty and enhances our resilience.

This is why investing in life sciences means investing in our strategic autonomy. This vision drives the Government’s commitment to providing citizens with increasingly effective treatments, boosting access to medicines, consolidating our industrial leadership, and becoming more and more attractive for investments.

This is why, in addition to the measures we have already adopted over the last years to boost this sector, we are working with great determination to complete a reform that has been awaited for decades – the new Consolidated Law for pharmaceutical legislation, which will play a fundamental role in simplifying the regulatory framework, providing operators with a greater level of certainty, speeding up access to innovation, and remaining competitive in the face of the major ongoing transformations, from artificial intelligence to new treatment platforms.

We want to continue along this path together with you and all those who bring life to this sector of excellence on a day-to-day basis. We will continue to stand by your side, because supporting the pharmaceutical industry means investing in Italy’s future, its healthcare, quality jobs, and our ability to chart the course ahead.
