President Meloni’s video message on EU Return Regulation

Today, Italy has achieved a major success in Europe.

The European Parliament has approved the new EU Return Regulation. This historic piece of legislation is above all the result of the work of the Italian Government and will enable us to swiftly repatriate those who are not entitled to remain in the European Union. 

Among other things, this regulation also provides for the possibility of opening return centres in third countries, thereby effectively following the path paved by the Italian Government through its protocol with Albania. The Italian and European Left have tried to hinder this innovative solution in all possible ways, but thanks to this Government it has now become a tool available to the whole of Europe.

Defending our borders, drastically reducing the number of migrant boat landings, fighting human traffickers, immediately repatriating those who are not entitled to remain here.

We promised Italians that we would change Europe and we have, with courage, patience, and determination, because what guides us is clear: respecting the programme that citizens voted for, point by point. We will not stop; we will carry on in exactly the same way.
