Dr. Ashutosh Limaye
Program Manager, Agriculture
Dr. Ashutosh Limaye serves as the Program Manager for Agriculture at NASA Earth Action within NASA’s Earth Science Division at Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In this role, he manages a diverse portfolio of activities dedicated to leveraging NASA Earth observations to create actionable solutions for agricultural communities across the United States and globally.
In 2010, Dr. Limaye joined the SERVIR program at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center as Chief Scientist. A joint initiative between NASA and the U.S. Agency for International Development, SERVIR applied Earth observations and predictive models to support environmental decision-making in countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Driven by a commitment to delivering the best and most appropriate science, he ensured that applied research met regional needs while advancing the U.S. State Department’s diplomatic priorities worldwide. For his outstanding contributions to the program, Dr. Limaye was awarded a NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal.
Previously, Dr. Limaye was involved in validation experiments for remotely sensed soil moisture using ground, airborne, and space-based microwave instruments. His primary research interests include hydrologic modeling, mathematical optimization, and agricultural yield estimation under changing agroclimatic conditions.
Dr. Limaye earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Pune in India, and a Ph.D. in Hydrology and Water Resources from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Utah State University. Outside of work, he and his wife are currently adjusting to life as empty-nesters while their two daughters pursue higher education.
