Parole Board launches new video and leaflet for victims
Additional resources now available for those victims engaged in the parole process
The Parole Board has produced a new leaflet and video to guide victims through the parole process. We appreciate that the parole system can be complex and difficult for victims to navigate, so we want to be as transparent as possible about how the system works, by providing clear and concise information on topics such as:
- how to submit a Victim Personal Statement;
- the different stages of the process;
- how to observe an oral hearing.
We would encourage all victims who will potentially be engaged in the parole process to use these resources. We also encourage all victims who are eligible, to enrol with the Victim Contact Scheme where they will be allocated a Victim Liaison Officer who can provide information and updates.
Parole Board Chief Executive Cecilia French said:
‘We want to extend our thanks to all those, including victims’ rights groups, the London Victims Commissioner and victims themselves, who have contributed to our video and leaflet on the parole process. We know that when a prisoner has their parole review it can be a very anxious time for their victims. We hope that these new resources will help them by outlining in straightforward language what a victim’s rights are within the process and the opportunities they have for their voices to be fully heard. In addition to the national rollout of victims observing oral hearings last year, this marks a further significant step in the Parole Board being able to demonstrate what we do and why we do it.’
