EU-US trade
Two legislative files addressing tariff-related aspects of the EU-US trade deal are the subject of a joint debate from around 18.15 with Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič. The first provides preferential access to the EU market for most US industrial and agricultural goods. The second extends the existing zero-tariff regime for imports of certain types of lobster. The draft legislation, provisionally agreed with Council, includes safeguard mechanisms and sets clear conditions for tariff reductions on steel and aluminium. MEPs will hold their final votes on the files tomorrow at 12.30, and a press briefing with the rapporteur will follow at 14.00.

AI act simplification and “nudifier” app ban
A debate with Šefčovič, on a legislative proposal postponing application of elements of the 2024 AI Act and addressing duplication for certain products already covered by sectoral safety rules, will take place from around 19.15. The proposal includes a ban on AI systems that create child sexual abuse material or non-consensual intimate material (“nudifier” apps). The final vote on the legislation, already provisionally agreed with Council, will be put to a final vote tomorrow at 12.30.
