Red Rainstorm Warning signal issued
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) issued the Red Rainstorm Warning at 7.40am on Wednesday as an active southwesterly airstream brought showers and
thunderstorms to the region.
The Education Bureau said classes for students of AM and whole-day schools would be cancelled for the day, though it said schools should keep premises open and look after students who arrive despite the bad weather.
The HKO had upgraded its warning to red less than half an hour after issuing the amber warning.
It warned that heavy rain likely to continue, and urged people to carefully consider the weather and road conditions before heading out.
The HKO also said flash floods may occur, and warned people to stay away from watercourses.
