Government condemns killing of Serbian UNIFIL peacekeeper in Lebanon

The Italian Government condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of a Serbian UNIFIL peacekeeper in southern Lebanon and the injury of other military personnel involved in the mission. 

Italy expresses its condolences to the victim’s family, the Serbian authorities, and the Serbian people, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.

All parties involved are reminded of their responsibility to ensure the safety of United Nations personnel, whose contingent must not in any way be subject to attacks or restrictions on freedom of movement.

Italy welcomes the announcement of a renewed ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, calling for a lasting end to the hostilities through strict adherence to the commitments undertaken, including the cessation of all military activity by Hezbollah.

Lastly, the Italian Government confirms its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, continuing its commitment to peace and stability in the region.
