President Meloni meets with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, today, in the margins of the G7 summit in Evian.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the implementation status of the Italy-Canada action plan for enhanced cooperation, with both leaders concurring that it would be opportune to consolidate this further. In this context, they agreed to continue working toward the adoption of a framework agreement between Rome and Ottawa on strategic issues such as defence, infrastructure, energy, critical minerals, and space. With particular regard to critical minerals, President Meloni thanked Prime Minister Carney for Canada’s decision to grant Italy priority access to its stockpiles, ensuring the security of supply chains.
During the meeting, the two leaders also had an in-depth discussion on the main issues on the international agenda, reaffirming their shared commitment to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and common support for stability in the Middle East and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with international law.
