Why Film Fans Traveled Hundreds of Kilometers to See “The Odyssey” in Prague
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey attracted film fans from across Europe to Prague, where Cinema City Flora hosted a sold-out 70mm IMAX premiere. Tickets for the opening night sold out within hours of going on sale, with visitors traveling from several countries to experience the film as Nolan intended. The adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic has been among the year’s most anticipated releases since its announcement. While its cast and source material generated significant attention, much of the excitement centered on its technical achievement. The Odyssey is the first feature film shot entirely on 70mm IMAX film, making screenings in compatible theaters exceptionally rare. Cinema City Flora is among roughly four dozen cinemas worldwide equipped to project 70mm IMAX film. Until earlier this month, it was the only venue in continental Europe with that capability. Following the opening of new theaters in France and Belgium, it is now one of just three across mainland Europe still offering the format.
