Swedish parliament passes bill to abolish permanent residency for refugees
From 12 July, only temporary residence permits can be issued to asylum seekers and certain other groups of immigrants in Sweden. It follows the passing of the government's bill in parliament on Tuesday. Temporary residence permits are already the norm in Sweden. Now, however, the option of obtaining a permanent residence permit is being removed altogether for these groups. It does not impact those who already have a permanent residence permit.
