A number of factors may “lead even long-standing allies and partners to question whether or not it’s wise to continue to depend on the United States for essential defense articles and services,” one analyst said.
In a statement announcing both moves, Stockholm said that Kyiv “plans to allocate” €2.5 billion ($2.9 billion) from the European Union’s Ukraine Support Loan to fund the package for the more modern Gripen combat aircraft.
Both companies expressed their readiness to transfer technology in line with mandates in Gulf states to localize defense production.
While no deal is finalized, Sweden’s Prime Minister stated that he looks forward to “welcoming Canada into the GlobalEye family.”
“The [Rogue 1] Block 2 upgrade leverages user feedback to greatly enhance performance, resilience, and operational capability, all while maintaining existing form-factor,” a Teledyne FLIR statement read.
