Op beveiligingsbeelden is te zien hoe een zwarte beer een werknemer achtervolgt bij de ingang van een fabriek en hem tegen de grond werkt. Hoewel de Aziatische zwarte beert gezien wordt als kwetsbaar, is de populatie in Japan de laatste jaren sterk gegroeid. Volgens schattingen is het aantal beren sinds 2012 verdrievoudigd, mede doordat er minder op de dieren wordt gejaagd. Deskundigen wijzen ook op klimaatverandering als een van de oorzaken van het toenemende aantal ontmoetingen tussen mens en beer. Door het veranderende klimaat hebben de beren steeds minder natuurlijke voedselbronnen, waardoor ze vaker richting bewoonde gebieden trekken.
