Ukrainian military personnel have already begun training to operate Swedish Gripen fighter jets.
In Uppsala, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson have initiated the conclusion of a major defense deal providing for the procurement of Swedish Gripen fighter jets.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will be able to receive its first Gripen fighter jets in 10 months. According to him, the pilots have already begun training.
The Swedish government approved the purchase of up to 20 Gripen E/F combat aircraft for Ukraine through the EU's Ukraine Support Loan mechanism. After that, Sweden also intends to transfer 16 Gripen C/D aircraft as part of bilateral assistance.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has announced that 16 used Gripen fighter jets are to be sent to Ukraine, and there are plans to purchase 20 new aircraft of the same model.
