Survey: Housing shortage puts young Swedes off having kids

Almost one in five young adults (18 per cent) hesitate to start a family due to the housing shortage, according to a new survey by the Tenants' Association. Four years ago, that number was just 4 per cent. Fewer municipalities report an overall housing shortage, compared to four years ago, but it is the affordable housing that is scarce, according to the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning.

Sweden’s parties close Järvaveckan with pledges on homes, safety and school 'culture days'

The Järvaveckan political event ended over the weekend and representatives of all parties in parliament have now held their speeches. The Moderate Party representative spoke about the right to own your own flat and the Sweden Democrats spoke about freedom from violence, crime and too much meddling by the state. The leader of the Liberal Party promised a 'culture day' for school children in socio-economically vulnerable areas, to go visit a theater for example, while the Center Party leader in her speech focused on overcrowding and the housing shortage.
