Trading on the Damascus Securities Exchange on June 3 was dominated by two large transactions worth more than SYP71.5mn ($646,800).
Russiaโs central bank disputes these figures: according to the regulatorโs own data, the share of cashless payments in retail turnover grew by 0.9 percentage points in the first quarter of 2026, reaching a record 88.9 percent. The share of cash withdrawal transactions fell 4 percent in both number and total volume.
The Russian leader noted that almost all transactions between the two countries are conducted in national currencies
The main driver were losses from transactions with foreign exchange, precious metals and derivatives, the regulator noted
