Viral fame spares โDonald Trumpโ buffalo from Eid sacrifice in Bangladesh
A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh โ nicknamed โDonald Trumpโ for its distinctive blond tuft โ has been โspared from Eidul Azha sacrifice after a โlast-minute government intervention, a Home Ministry official said on Wednesday. The nearly 700-kg animal had already been sold for ritual โslaughter when authorities stepped in, citing security โconcerns after a surge of public interest ahead โ of Thursdayโs festival. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered the โbuffalo be spared, the buyer refunded, and the animal โmoved to the national zoo in Dhaka. โAt the last moment, the decision was taken to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due โto security concerns and the unusual level of โpublic interest,โ a ministry official said. What began as a routine โEid โ purchase quickly turned into a nationwide curiosity after videos went viral. Crowds gathered at the farm, with visitors travelling from far afield to see its blond โfringe and calm โdemeanour. Farm owner โ Ziauddin Mridha said the name came from his younger brother, who spotted the resemblance. Mridha โadded that the animal is unusually gentle and โneeds โ careful upkeep, including frequent feeding and regular baths. Albino buffaloes are rare in Bangladesh, where most cattle are dark, โ making โit a standout during the โpeak Eid livestock season โ though it was the nickname that likely saved โits life.
