Founding Charter of Bank of Korea

Upon enactment of Bank of Korea Act in May 5, 1950, Bank of Korea was born on June 12, 1950, as the central bank of Republic of Korea. Daedong Eunjeon (Silver Coin)

Daedong eunjeon is the first modernized silver coin issued in 1882 with three types, Daedong 1-jeon, 2-jeon, and 3-jeon. Unlike other coins, Daedong eunjeon, used for foreign trade, did not come with a hole in the middle. The name of the coin was printed on the coin's obverse, while the reverse showed an abbreviation for the name of the mint, "Ho" for the Hojo, and was decorated with traditional Korean cloisonne. However, the amount of the coin in circulation was insignificant because some classes stocked it up right after the issuance and the coin was drained abroad. The soaring price of the Chinese horseshoe-shaped silver ingots also contributed to the halt of the Daedong eunjeon production in nine months of the issuance

Eulyoo 1-yang Test Coin

King Gojong of Joseon made great efforts to establish a modern monetary system in his kingdom, launching a plan to issue a new set of coins made at the Central Government Mint (Jeonhwanguk), which was founded in 1883 according to the proposal of his German advisor, P. G. von Möllendorff. The government of Joseon imported blanks and coin dies from Germany and minted two of Korea’s first modern coins, a 1-nyang silver coin and a 5-mun tin test coin, in 1885. The coins are called Euryu Test Coins because they were minted in the Euryu Year (i.e. 1885). Of the two, the 1-nyang test coin bears on its front face a Taegeuk symbol with a plum spray, symbolizing the Joseon royal family, and on its rear face a dragon, symbolizing the royal authority, with inscriptions of the minting date and denomination along its edge.
