Police disperse protestors at polling station, acquire ballot boxes

South Korean police on Friday dispersed hundreds of demonstrators at a polling station in southern Seoul who had blocked access to ballot boxes to protest the ballot shortage during Wednesday's local elections. Mobile police units were dispatched at around 7:30 a.m. to Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, southern Seoul, where citizens had been at a stand-off with authorities since Wednesday evening. The number of protestors reached as high as 1,400, according to police estimates shared at 11 p.m. Thursday.

Fire breaks out near National Election Commission during vote counting

A fire broke out on a hillside near the National Election Commission headquarters in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, at around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, about an hour and a half after polls closed in the local elections. [Breaking] Explosion reported at Hanwha Aerospace HQ in Daejeon: Fire authorities

An explosion was reported Monday at Hanwha Aerospace’s headquarters in Daejeon. Fire authorities were still checking for possible casualties as of press time. Daejeon fire authorities said they received about 30 reports at around 10:59 a.m. from callers who said they heard a loud blast and saw smoke coming from the site. Firefighters dispatched personnel and equipment to the headquarters and are working to extinguish the fire. Police and fire authorities suspect a propellant may have exploded. T
