I-dle among “30 Under 30 Asia” chosen by Forbes

Girl group I-dle made the “30 Under 30 Asia” list this year in Forbes magazine, published Wednesday in the US. In the Entertainment and Sports category, the group was chosen as one of the most influential young forces in the Asia-Pacific region. Since its debut in 2018, the quintet “went on to release multiple chart-topping albums, and have about 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify,” the US magazine wrote, also mentioning that after renaming itself — from (G)I-dle — last year, it “released it

First Coins issued by Bank of Korea

As the economy started to recover after the Korean War with prices stabilizing, Bank of Korea issued coins to cut currency manufacturing costs and make small-value transactions easier. For the first time since the founding of the Bank, it issued hwan-denominated coins in three denominations (100-hwan, 50-hwan, and 10-hwan) in October 1959. These coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint in the United States due to the lack of coin-making technologies. A picture of Korean President Rhee Syng-man was chosen as the design theme for the 100-hwan coins. There was the famous turtle warship, Geobukson, on the 50-hwan coins and a Korean hibiscus, Mugunghwa, on the 10-hwan coins.

Commemorative Banknote: The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018

On November 17, 2017, this commemorative banknote was issued to promote the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics at home and abroad and boost the Olympics' successful hosting. Sophisticated anti-counterfeiting features equivalent to that of the 50,000-won note were applied to this first commemorative banknote ever issued in Korea. Speed skaters were chosen as the design theme for the front, and "Songhamaenghodo" (Tiger under the pine tree) by the renowned painter Kim Hong-do from the Joseon Dynasty was used for the back to depict the Korean national emblems, tiger and pine tree. The note's color is grey, which carries the atmosphere of winter, and it measures 140mm wide and 75mm tall.
