An analysis of his microbiome revealed a particular kind of a gut bacteria that is almost non-existent among modern humans.
The results were found "under very specific conditions" in the lab and do not "call into question the effectiveness" of the repellent DEET, the lead study author said.
The findings could one day help lead to therapies to preserve brain function.
