India is bolstering energy ties with Venezuela, now its third-largest crude supplier, to diversify imports amidst West Asia disruptions. Discussions also explored broader economic cooperation in sectors like mining, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture, with Venezuela viewing India as a stable, long-term partner. High-level delegations are examining investment opportunities.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Delcy Rodriguez and reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening ties with the South American nation.
The two sides are looking at expanding energy cooperation, as New Delhi seeks to diversify its crude oil procurement amid supply disruptions from the West Asia crisis.
During their meeting, PM Modi and Delcy Rodriguez discussed ways to deepen cooperation in energy security, trade, investment, healthcare and transportation.

During her visit, Ms. Rodriguez is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Indian leadership, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
During one of her earlier Puttaparthi visits, Rodriguez reportedly spoke about experiencing peace and spiritual calm at the ashram.

Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela's interim president, will visit India from June 3 to 7 to discuss bilateral relations with Prime Minister Modi. The trip comes as India increases its crude imports from Venezuela, making it the second-largest buyer of Venezuelan oil after the US.
