During the call, Sharaa said lifting the remaining US sanctions on Syria was an essential step toward reviving the Syrian economy and attracting investment, the statement said.
In a post on X/Twitter, Bessent asserted that โthe Iranian economy and currency are in free fall,โ as the US continues enforcing its blockade on Iranian ports along the Strait of Hormuz.
The US has recently stepped up sanctions on Iran through "Economic Fury," a program meant to disrupt Tehran's shadow banking networks and terrorist financing schemes.
