Nash Ensemble/Booth/Farnsworth/Cottis (Onyx) Soprano Claire Booth and baritone Marcus Farnsworth celebrate the influential British composerโs kaleidoscopic soundworld with this collection of four song cycles Itโs hard to think of a single figure who has been so influential on contemporary UK classical music for so long as Colin Matthews, who turned 80 earlierthis year. This release from the Nash Ensemble, conducted by Jessica Cottis, showcases his works for voice and chamber group. Democrats criticize deal as a slush fund that โfunnels taxpayer dollarsโ to presidentโs political allies Sign up for the Breaking News US newsletter email The justice department announced on Monday it was creating a loosely controlled and secretive $1.776bn fund to compensate Donald Trump allies as part of an agreement in which Trump and his sons dropped a $10bn longshot lawsuit against the IRS. The money, which critics said was essentially a slush fund, will be overseen by five commissioners โ four of whom would be appointed by the attorney general and removable by Trump โ who would oversee the bodyโs work. A fifth commissioner will be appointed โin consultationโ with congressional leadership. The fund also has the power to issue โformal apologiesโ and will send a quarterly confidential report to the US attorney general outlining who has been paid from the fund. There is no requirement that the fundโs work be made public. Continue reading...
