Observatory downgrades typhoon signal to T3

RTHK News (Hong Kong)

The Observatory downgraded the T8 signal to the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 12.40 pm on Sunday.

The forecaster cautioned that mean wind speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and stressed that it is not yet safe for small vessels to leave typhoon shelters.

At noon, Severe Tropical Storm Noul was positioned about 110 kilometres north of Hong Kong, tracking north-northwest at roughly 15 kilometres per hour towards inland Guangdong.

Acting Senior Scientific Officer Ng Yin-lam said that although gale-force south-westerly winds were still affecting parts of the territory, they would gradually subside as Noul moves away.

"Under the influence of the intense outer rainbands associated with Noul, there will still be heavy squally showers and thunderstorms over the territory on Sunday," she said.

Ng also advised residents to avoid water sports, as seas are expected to remain rough with high swells.
