Technology minister Sun Dong on Sunday said a second batch of land tenders for the Hetao Hong Kong Park will likely be launched within the next one to two months.
This comes weeks after the government started inviting bids for the first four land parcels in the Lok Ma Chau Loop technology hub.
Speaking on a television programme, Sun described the market response to the initial tenders as highly positive, saying the government plans to keep the momentum going.
“Starting from now, we will launch a new batch of land parcels for tendering periodically,” he said.
“Many companies, especially high-tech enterprises, are now paying closer attention to developments in Hetao.
“Firms that are more curious [about the development] are from the fields of artificial intelligence, life and health, as well as quantum and chip technology. These enterprises are performing exceptionally well in the high-tech sector, so I am fully confident regarding future tender results.”
Asked where his confidence came from, given that the recent tender for an 11-hectare site in Hung Shui Kiu drew only two bids, Sun said the government has never been concerned about the low number of participants.
“During a tendering process, we don’t care how many people made a bid. Instead, we care about whether there is a high-quality bid,” he said.
Sun added that the government will stick to a “seize every minute and second” strategy to accelerate development.
