Tabon Cave assessment bolsters Unesco World Heritage bid

MANILA, Philippines — The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) said an eight-day scientific assessment of the Tabon Cave Complex in Palawan has strengthened efforts to improve cave management and support the site’s proposed inscription on the Unesco World Heritage List. The assessment, conducted from July 7 to 14, brought together the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Mimaropa Regional Cave Assessment Team and representatives from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Biodiversity Management Bureau, Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, Marinduque State University, and the NMP’s Archaeology, Geology and Paleontology, Zoology, and Botany and National Herbarium divisions.
