T9 issued as Typhoon Noul approaches

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) issued the T9 signal at 1.10am on Sunday as Noul intensified into a Severe Typhoon and approached the Guangdong coast.

“Local winds will strengthen significantly in the next few hours”, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) warned.

It urged people not to venture outside and stay away from exposed windows and doors.

The storm is forecast to make landfall somewhere between Huizhou and Shanwei, and pass around 100 kilometres northwest of the territory.

The HKO said Noul will bring frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, and urged people to pay attention to the latest weather information issued by the Observatory.

This is the first time the observatory issued the T9 signal since Super Typhoon Ragasa battered the territory in September 2025.

Chief Executive John Lee said he has instructed the relevant government departments to take all necessary measures to protect people's lives and property.

Writing on his social media page, Lee urged members of the public to remain vigilant and stay tuned to the latest weather announcements.
