Observatory issues T8, will consider T9 later
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 at 10.10pm on Saturday night, as Typhoon Noul moves closer to the SAR.
It added that it will consider issuing the Increasing Gale or Storm Signal No. 9 between 1 and 2am on Sunday.
“According to the present forecast track, Noul will make landfall over the vicinity of Huizhou to Shanwei tomorrow (26 July) morning, skirting around 100 kilometres northeast of Hong Kong,” the forecaster said.
“Its gale winds are expected to affect Hong Kong gradually. Local wind force will rise further overnight.”
Chief Executive John Lee said he's instructed the relevant government departments to take all necessary measures to protect people's lives and property.
Writing on his social media page, Lee urged members of the public to remain vigilant and stay tuned to the latest weather announcements.
