ADHD medication misuse declines among US adults, study finds

Misuse of stimulant medications for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has declined sharply.

In 2023, approximately 3.7% of adults younger than 30 misused these medications, down from 7.5% in 2016.

In 2023, 1.9% of adults of all ages misused them, with misuse more common among younger adults, white adults, people living in cities and college students.
