Huda Ammor, the co-founder of the proscribed group, is set to challenge a Court of Appeal ruling upholding the ban in Autumn

The co-founder of Palestine Action has been granted permission to challenge the Home Office's decision to ban the direct action group as a terrorist organisation.

The UK proscribed the group in July 2025 and since then its co-founder Huda Ammori has fought to overturn the decision.

In June, the Court of Appeal quashed a High Court ruling which found the ban to be unlawful.

A five-strong panel of judges ruled that the government's move to ban the group "struck a fair balance" between the individual's rights to speech and freedom of assembly and the interests of "national security".

Ammori said in a statement following the ruling that she would "fight proscription all the way" to the Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights in order to overturn “one of the most extreme attacks on free speech and the right to protest in modern British history”.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court said that Ammori could appeal this decision, with the challenge being heard in the autumn.

The ban, which was implemented in July last year, has made membership of, or support for the direct action group a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

Since then, some 3,500 people have been arrested for alleged support for Palestine Action.

This comes as over 1,500 people facing Terrorism charges in connection with Palestine Action protests had their cases listed for hearings in London on Thursday.

London's Metropolitan Police said that over seventy people were arrested outside Westminister Crown Court.
