Hundreds refused work permits after Swedish asylum rule change

Restaurant workers and cleaners were among those most affected when the Swedish parliament last year took away the possibility of what was known as “track change”, which meant that people whose asylum application had been rejected had been allowed to stay in Sweden if they had a job and could switch to a work permit.

That's according to a new study by the Swedish Migration Agency.

The rule change also affected those that had made the switch in the past, and the groups most affected came from Uzbekistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Mongolia and Egypt, according to the agency ...
