J&K School Book Calls Terrorists, Separatists 'Great Personalities'; BJP Says 'Academic Jihad'

A political row has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir after a book distributed to government school libraries allegedly described terrorists and separatist leaders as “great personalities" and “legends."The book, reportedly supplied to government schools under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, allegedly glorified separatist figures including Maqbool Bhat, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Shabir Shah, Masarat Alam, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Maulvi Farooq as “legends".Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, termed the issue a “grave offence" and demanded strict action against those responsible.Sharma said that the book praised the 2008 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed and referred to J&K as “Indian-occupied Kashmir."
