Key Charm

This decorative Key Charm, called a “coin charm plaque” (Byeljeonpae) or “key plaque” (Gaegeumpae), was one of the special gifts typically presented to a bride by her mother to celebrate her marriage.

Decorative Key Charms like this one were made by attaching to it either a few small coin charms or a single large coin charm, using small holes and decorative loops.

The small coin charms hanging from the Key Charm were engraved with inscriptions of Confucian virtues or with prayers for longevity, wealth and prosperity through the generations. ...
