트럼프 대통령은 이날 소셜미디어 트루스소셜에서 "네타냐후 총리는 최근 5만2000명의 무고한 시위대를 살해하고 지난 47년 동안 미군 병사들과 다른 사람들을 살해해 온 이란과 맞서 싸우고 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
트럼프 대통령은 "체포돼야 할 유일한 사람들은 이란을 전례 없는 죽음과 파괴의 소용돌이로 몰아넣은 자들뿐"이라고도 주장했다.
트럼프 대통령의 이 같은 언급은 민주당 소속의 조란 맘다니 뉴욕시장이 네타냐후 총리 체포 가능성을 거론한 데 대한 반박으로 풀이된다.
맘다니 시장은 지난 18일 공개된 뉴욕타임스와 인터뷰에서 네타냐후 총리가 유엔총회 참석을 위해 뉴욕을 방문할 경우 국제형사재판소(ICC)가 발부한 체포영장을 집행하는 방안을 검토하고 있다고 밝혔다.
ICC는 2024년 11월 가자 지구에서의 전쟁범죄 및 반인도적 범죄 혐의로 네타냐후 총리에 대해 체포영장을 발부했다....
