Al-Sadr urges IRGC to keep Iraq out of regional conflict

Patriotic Shiite Movement (PSM) leader Muqtada Al-Sadr on Wednesdaycondemned "brazen militias” in Iraq for dragging the country into "apointless war" and urged Iran's Revolutionary Guard not to target Iraqiterritory.
In a statement, Al-Sadr said Iraq had not been used as a launchpadfor attacks against Iran, urging Tehran-backed "uncontrolledmilitias" not to provide Gulf states with a pretext to target the country.
He called on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid beingdrawn into "Zionist-American plans" to incite conflict among regionalallies.
Al-Sadr also denounced attacks on Iraqi territory "by allcountries and parties" and called on the Iraqi government to enforcesecurity, uphold the country's sovereignty, safeguard its people and holysites, and prevent sectarian tensions.
"Iraq and its people need peace. Enough of the wars that haveexhausted the country's resources and dignity," he said.
