'Angry apes': Racism probe launched into Gothenburg educational campaign

Sweden's Equality Ombudsman (DO) is set to investigate educational material produced by the City of Gothenburg, which it says was racist.

The "Angry apes" educational material was issued in 2025 by Gothenburg's social services, and included images of people depicted as different animals, including apes. They attracted a lot of controversy — there was for instance an image of a young person wearing a hijab shown as an ape, surrounded by a crowd of humans.
