Commemorative Coins: 1978 FIFA World Cup Argentina

FIFA World Cup commemorative coins were first issued in 1978 to mark the 11th FIFA event held in Argentina, and have since been issued ten more times up to the 21st event held in Russia in 2018.

Made from silver and brass and issued in six types, the Argentine World Cup coins show the event’s emblem, a soccer ball held by two human hands, on their front face, and a map of South America, the Argentine national coat of arms and Sol de Mayo on the rear face of silver coins, and the images of athletes and stadiums on the rear of brass coins. ...
