Burnham to give speech on social care as Louise Casey plays down cost concerns saying many families ‘already paying’ – UK politics live

The Guardian World

ONP 요약

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has invited cross‑party partners, including Kemi Badenoch and Ed Davey, to discuss reforms to the adult social care system, while Nigel Farage is excluded. He will give a speech on Wednesday outlining the first steps to overhaul the system, amid concerns over the cost to families.

진보 성향:Tax burden concern — Conservatives warn the proposed reforms could impose new taxes, costing constituents £50,000 each.

보수 성향:Collaborative reform — Progressives highlight the PM's call for cross‑party consensus and problem‑solving over point‑scoring.

PM will not discuss details but will focus on need to find ‘common ground’ and to build political consensus

I do think, though, that we do see examples where some private companies have been making ridiculous amounts of money.

It’s an issue if we are wasting money, if we’re wasting taxpayers’ money, and people are paying way over the odds. So you do it in the normal way … you have regulation, you have rules, and I think this whole area has not been looked at properly.
